Five Senses Phonics Book 4
Five Senses Phonics Book 4
Five Senses Phonics is a carefully structured series of activity books for pre-readers and beginning readers at the important stage of their literacy acquisition. These activity books are intended for use in a preschool setting, in the beginning school years, and for older students who are having difficulty learning to read.
Book 4 focuses on:
- Initial and terminal blends
- Recognising word patterns
- Spelling skills
- Basic sight vocabulary
In Book 4 Students learn to read words containing initial and terminal blends (st, cr, -nt, -nd,-mp and so on). Initial and terminal blending skills are sequentially introduced and practised. The activity pages in each unit reinforce and consolidate the acquisition of this basic reading skill. Blending skills are consolidated and refined as each new blend is introduced. An expanded list of basic sight vocabulary words is introduced which students are expected to master.
The exercises in Book 4 develop competency in the above basic phonics skills. On completing Book 4, students are able read words containing initial and terminal blends. Students then progress to Book 5 to develop the fundamental phonics skill of reading words containing consonant digraphs, long vowel sound and the soft c and c sounds.
Student progress is regularly monitored and evaluated after completing each level by using the Achievement Tests section. Each test is specifically designed to assess mastery of skills and to allow students to confirm the positive results of their learning experiences.
